I honestly completely regret spending money on this and wish I had a full refund.
3d coat alternative software#
In the end it just feels like crap, it feels like a very cheap piece of software to whom some students just randomly added some cool functions during Google Summer of Code, not minding how they work in the real world.Īll in all I just don't recommend it, it's been a huge disappointment for me. There's just some huge issue with UNDO, for me it makes parts of the mesh disappear and crashes the program. While just using the normal (draw, smooth, flatten etc.) brushes feels pretty ok, using other tools is super laggy and often just makes the program unstable. There's no equivalent for some of Zbrush's features at all (such as ClayPolish, the Noise tool is a joke.), there's no multiresolution scultping, instead you have to use a proxy system, it just doesn't feel good. It all falls apart for me when it comes to the general scultping experience, It just doesn't feel as natural as in Zbrush, It's still not a deal breaker for me I guess. So, as I mentioned I like the Voxels, I can live with the UI in terms of the visuals, however a lot of the menus feel very disorganised and cluttered. I'll focus on sculpting, since that's what I planned to use the most from the start and 3dcoat has always been a sculpting app to me. Hovewer, the more I started to use it professionaly the more it all felt apart. I've been using 3dcoat on and off for like 2 years now, I initially really liked the voxel sculpting capabilities, and in general it seemed like a pretty capable piece of software on the surface. So happy I can now do voxel modeling in 3DCoat and end up getting a really good mesh after doing retopo in another software.įirst of all I bought it on Steam, but I just used the key and didn't use the Steam version from then on. QuadRemesher is also available for Blender, though I haven't tried it in blender. I have found QuadRemesher plugin for C4D works very well and much more efficient, quicker, and does not crash.

You need to do the retopo using some other software. At this point the models topology will be far too dense as it's all voxels. Do this instead - model as a voxel model, this software is brilliant for that, then go to RENDER ROOM and export model as fbx. Saturday - Used 3DCoat today and have a work around so you don't have to constantly pull your hair out when it keeps crashing when it's time to Autopo in the Retopo room.

I bring my SketchUp Pro models into C4D to animate, the models and textures from SketchUp Pro render really well in C4D. Also huge library of plugins or extensions too. It also allows you to easily do boolean operations. I have now discovered SketchUp Pro which is superior to this.

Of course, like a crack addict, I will still keep occasionally using it, as it's booleans with voxels and modeling technique is really nice, but it will never be a professional software. Constant crashes, Strange interface, will have you pulling your hair out and wishing you were never born and tempt you to smash your keyboard and stomp on your screen. Documentation is also sparse and development priority seems to be on new features rather than fixing the insane amount of problems this software has.Ĭomplete rubbish! Don't waste your time on this crap piece of software.Īs much as I love this software and the freedom and ease it gives to do boolean operations using voxels before generating a 3d coat mesh, I can not recommend it to anyone, as it is very unstable and has poor documentation. This program is okay at best for non-professional usage, but the second you want to get serious - stay away. As I am typing this review, I currently have a problem where colors are "bleeding" into other UV shells, causing weird artifacts. for the purpose of sculpting in detail and baking normals) without major issues. Certain Industry standard workflow procedures are just not possible in this program that make me question the developers - for example, it is not possible to seamlessly import an existing 3D asset into a sculpting workplace (ie. Files of sculpts have been irreversibly corrupted, losing hours of work. You will experience CONSISTENT crashes, bugs, and glitches - I've had cases where simply clicking a tool would crash me.
3d coat alternative license#
**Note** I currently do not use the Steam version anymore, as I have the full license version - but ALL the issues still remain. What first seemed like an affordable alternative to Z-Brush with great painting features quickly turned into an absolute buggy non-intuitive disaster. I've been using this program on and off for a couple of years now and my opinion of it has greatly soured over time.
